POOK

The Percussion Orchestra of Kingston

The Percussion Orchestra of Kingston (POOK) is a program of the Center for Creative Education. Led by CCE director Robert ‘Evry’ Mann, POOK was founded in 1997 by three percussionists who also work as educators and social workers as a way to get kids off the streets and provide them with meaningful activity and important life skills. They joined forces to form an ensemble that has trained hundreds of children in world rhythms and percussion techniques and delighted thousands of listeners throughout the region.

POOK offers a unique opportunity for youth by integrating musical repertoire and dance with a strong emphasis on preparing for productive adult life.

POOK frequently performs with CCE’s ENERGY Dance CompanyCaliente

Caliente is CCE’s Hispanic dance troupe featuring a gifted group of young dancers who specialize in traditional dance forms done in new ways. The group is planning to incorporate live percussion into its performance repertoire.

Special support for staff and equipment provided by the New York State Music Fund through a grant from the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
